From Checklists to Champions: Small Daily Habits Can Shape Big Success

Establish Small Daily Habits for Success

Seeing your dental practice grow is the ultimate goal, but it’s not always clear how it can become a reality. Often, it may seem that some practices become successful overnight, but is that really the case? For the majority of businesses, small daily habits are what make the difference.

These habits set the tone for what patients experience, offering consistency that increases loyalty and improves retention. It’s beneficial for the entire team, too, encouraging even more comprehensive care. All of these combine to help profitability. But what daily habits can make the biggest impact on your practice?

Morning Team Routines

Connecting with your team every morning is one of the most important daily habits you can begin at your business. Dental practice success depends on everyone working together and facing challenges as a united front.

Having these morning huddles can align schedules and prepare your team members for unique cases you may have that day. If there were concerns left from the day before, you can address them at this time, too.

Having these meetings, which don’t have to last longer than a few minutes, brings clarity to the workday. It gets everyone on the same page and sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Patient Touchpoints

Another daily habit to add to your practice is reaching out to patients more regularly. Making follow-up calls is one excellent way of building trust and improving patient retention. The same is true if you send patients reminders of upcoming appointments or other notes.

These small gestures can often be enough to avoid losing patients, but to encourage recommendations. A patient who feels like they matter to their dentist even when they’re not in the room is more likely to recommend the provider to friends and family. You may even reduce cancellations.

Organized Systems

Keeping a practice as organized as possible means reviewing schedules to avoid double-booking and making certain that everything flows as efficiently as possible. Although it may not seem like it, building your practice with a CEO business mindset can make a difference in how successful it is.

The collection process is not the most exciting part of your job, but it’s necessary for the practice’s financial well-being. You need to have an organized checklist of steps for your team to follow when making these collections so that patient experience doesn’t suffer, but you’re still able to get payments.

Taking the time to organize the systems your business depends on can help identify issues before they get worse. Reviewing each employee’s schedule can prevent over-burdening staff, which can lead to burnout and lower patient satisfaction.

Having a clear grasp of your practice’s numbers is also integral, and you can address this through regular assessments.

Knowing the total number of procedures to be performed that day, the amounts that will be billed, and the types of cases that you may not be taking on because of a gap in your services can all assist you in making better decisions for your practice.

Continuous Learning

Setting aside time each day to refresh skills is another daily habit to incorporate. You and the rest of the team can benefit from continuing to learn. You can encourage team members to take continuing education (CE) courses while providing ongoing support every day to help keep all skills as fresh as possible.

You should undertake CE courses, too, putting the information you gathered from your practice’s case numbers to work for you. If you find that you have had to refer many patients to other providers for orthodontic services, for example, training to be able to offer these services yourself can significantly impact your bottom line.

Orthodontic courses offer the chance to improve your practice and attract new patients. It can also reduce your need to send patients to other providers.
